Where the Wild Things Are

At first I did not really like this book. I know, I know a Caldecott Winner, a short easy read, an imaginative story. I just was not into it the first time I read it. But the second time I read it I started to see why it is so loved. First of all I love the pictures. They are great. I love the monsters. They exemplify a child's imagination and fears of monsters. And yet they are not actually scary. I also love that Max becomes the king. He is more powerful than the monsters and makes them intimidated by him. I want to know what Maurice Sendak was thinking when he wrote this book. I really enjoyed this book after the second read. And would not mind reading it a third.
